Making tumblers is one of my favorite past times.  There are SO MANY different ways to customize them that every tumbler can be different. While there are many different colors you can combine in an infinite number of ways, choosing the wrong color combo can ruin the perfect tumbler you have in your brain.  I wanna talk about some ways to find the best color combinations for stunning tumblers.

Choosing the right colors for your tumbler can take it from “meh” to “oh yeah”.  Color combos are important because they give life to your creation. As ugly are purple and yellow are side by side, anything else on an LSU tumbler just doesn’t make sense (yes, I know it’s technically yellow, but you get my drift).  This guide will cover some of the best and WORST color combinations you’re tumblers can take on.

Understanding Color Theory for Tumblers To Make The Best Color Combinations

Color schemes are important, and I think we should take a second to look at some of the different ways you can combine colors.

Complementary colors are colors that appear on opposite sides of a color wheel.  They work by making each other more vibrant.  Red-green, yellow-purple and orange blue and all examples of complementary colors.

Complementary colors could be used on sporty or eye-catching tumblers.  Think a deep Navy tumbler with bright orange accents (like the Mets or Auburn sports teams).  

Monochromatic colors are colors that share the same base color.  A dark purple, purple and light purple would be monochromatic colors.

Monochromatic colors work well with ombre designs, for obvious reasons.  The cohesive fade of color to color gives them a certain sophistication. 

Analogous colors are next to each other on the color wheel.  Red-orange-yellow or green-blue-indigo could be examples of analogous colors.

Analogous colors work really well together for sunset/sunrise type tumblers.  Analogous colors can also work really well for ombre glitter tumblers as long as you pair them well.

The type of color pairings you are going to use depend greatly on what type of theme you’re going with.  Luckily, spray paint and glitters come in a variety of colors.  

You want to make sure your colors stand out without clashing.  There are a few tis to help with this:

• too many colors can be overwhemling
• choose a dominant color, an accent color and a neutral or metallic color to tie it all together.
• Match the color to the theme.  Winter themes are better with icy blues, silvers and white, while Halloween tumblers look great with black, purple and neon green (Betelgeuse Betelgeuse Betelgeuse)

Red and Black- probably one of my favorite combos.

Rainbows- because why not?  Rainbow glitter tumblers can be so versatile.

Choosing the right color combo is REALLY important, but I always recommend experimenting with different color combinations.  Mix glitters together (in disposable cups, NOT all of one with all of another).  Use mica powder.  Mix it up with some chunky glitter.  The world is your oyster (although I hope not because gross). Add some vinyl to your own color combinations and carry your weird tumbler with pride.

The only answer for a complete re-do is to strip it.  It’s a lot easier than it sounds and it does not take a very long time. I cover that here.
